Test Engineering has been the primary focus of my full-time engineering positions since 1992. Whether in the Electronics, Petroleum, or Optical Disc industries, or in defense contracting and many related fields, developing accurate test routines to verify proper operation of various types of systems has been my specialty.
I have developed tests for electronic circuit boards ranging from simple LCD displays, to complex multi-processor CPU boards; from mere continuity tests on backplanes, to elaborate signal observations on frequency-shifting RF communication links.
In the optical disc industry, I have developed Signal Integrity tests that verify the quality of the signals being generated and sent to the Laser Beam Recorders down to extremely tight tolerances, as well as Format verification tests to ensure that the data being encoded into the signals is 100% accurate according to the specification of the format being generated.
The test programs I have developed have also covered a wide range of complexity; from simple operator observation and response, to full racks of complex test equipment, all operating under program control, incorporating step-by-step troubleshooting routines to isolate failures.
I am very familiar with a wide range of test equipment, including Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Logic Analyzers, DMMs, Timing Interval Analyzers, Arbitrary Waveform Generators, Digital Pattern Generators, Power Supplies, Switching Matrices, and more. I have exercised automated control of these instruments over multiple instrumentation buses, including GPIB, RS232, USB, Ethernet, RS485, VXI, & PXI.
I have developed Automated Test Programs to control system testing using LabVIEW, LabWindows CVI, Fluke TL1, AutoIT, & PERL, as well as the assembly languages of multiple microprocessor families.
